multipeaked distribution
A probability distribution with several modes (cf. Mode) or, what is the same, with a density (cf. Density of a probability distribution) having several relative maxima corresponding to these modes. In contrast to unimodal distributions (cf. Unimodal distribution), multimodal distributions are comparatively rare (in practice) and, as a rule, arise as mixtures of probability distributions.
